Multiple areas of Delhi-NCR received fresh spells of rain in the early hours of Thursday, July 9, extending the ongoing wet spell across the region and providing major relief from the hot and humid weather.

The rains brought down temperature, but caused waterlogging across different areas, affecting normal movement, IANS reported.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an ‘Orange Alert’ for Delhi and warned of heavy rainfall in the city through most of the day. The residents have been asked to remain cautious amid the prevailing weather conditions in the city.

The continuous rainfall in Delhi-NCR led to waterlogging at several locations, such as New Delhi Railway Station, Munirka and other areas.

Amid overnight rain, two trees were uprooted on Raja Dhir Singh Marg in southeast Delhi’s East of Kailash on Thursday. Due to this, traffic was disrupted in the area, as per the Delhi Fire Service (DFS).

As per the IMD, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall activity is expected to continue over Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and western Uttar Pradesh until July 10.

Also, it has forecast a fresh spell of rain across northeastern Uttar Pradesh until July 13, while eastern Rajasthan is likely to experience similar rainfall activity on July 9.

Data shared by the IMD showed that the overall rainfall recorded between 8:30 a.m. on July 8 and 5:30 a.m. on July 9 exhibited considerable variations throughout Delhi-NCR.

Among the various stations in Delhi, Mehrauli saw the highest rainfall at 83 mm, followed by Lodi Road at 79 mm, Pusa at 73 mm, Chhatarpur at 68 mm, and Mayur Vihar at 66 mm.
