Opposition leader VD Satheesan on Thursday said the death of a patient at the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College without receiving adequate treatment, shows the real condition of the health system in the state.
Satheesan said Venu, a native of Kollam Panmana, who died at the Thiruvananthapuram Government College Hospital without receiving treatment, was a victim of the inadequacies in the state health department. “It shows that the health system in Kerala is on a ventilator,” Satheesan said. The Health Department cannot escape the responsibility of that death, he said.
“Venu did not die, but was murdered by the Health Department that this government has destroyed in its nine and a half years rule,” he said.
Satheesan also clarified that the voice message of Venu sent to his friend contains the sorrows and self-resentment of every helpless common man in Kerala who approaches government hospitals.
Venu, who was admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital for an emergency angiogram, has not been treated for six days. It is said he himself had said this in a voice message.
Venu, a native of Panmana, Kollam, died on Wednesday at the hospital. His family alleges that even after six days of being admitted with a heart ailment, an angiogram was not performed. Venu’s voice message has also been released saying that if he died, it was due to the negligence of the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital authorities. The family has filed a complaint regarding this with the authorities.
State Health Minister Veena George has sought a report on the complaint regarding the patient‘s death at the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital without getting adequate treatment. The Health Minister has instructed the Director of the Medical Education to immediately investigate the complaint and submit a report.
