A security guard was injured after unidentified persons allegedly opened fire outside educator Khan Sir’s coaching institute near Musallahpur Haat in Patna late on Tuesday night, police said. The incident created a buzz across the area, and by Wednesday, a large number of students had assembled outside the coaching centre.

Senior police officers rushed to the spot soon after the incident, and security was tightened in the area. Police have started examining CCTV footage from nearby locations and are recording statements of the injured guard and local residents as part of the investigation.

According to police, the injured guard was rushed to a hospital and is undergoing treatment. The exact sequence of events remains under investigation, with officers attempting to establish the circumstances that led to the firing.

Speaking to ANI, SP Kartikeya K Sharma said the case was being treated as one involving physical assault and that statements of the injured guard and local residents were being recorded.

“It has been reported that the guard sustained injuries; therefore, further action is being taken by recording his statement as well as the statements of the local people. The injured individual is currently undergoing treatment,” he said.

Police identify several suspects, CCTV footage under scrutiny

As news of the incident spread, a large number of students assembled outside the coaching institute, prompting police to step up security measures in the area.

Patna City SP Diksha said investigators were examining all available evidence, including video footage captured around the scene.

“Everything is currently being verified; formal complaints are being recorded, and further proceedings are underway. All video footage is being thoroughly scrutinised,” she said.

The officer added that reports had been received about one injured person and that CCTV footage analysis had so far helped identify 10 to 12 individuals suspected of involvement.

Khan Sir alleges role of rival coaching centre

Following the incident, Khan Sir alleged that individuals linked to a nearby coaching institute could be behind the attack. He claimed the dispute stemmed from the success and affordability of his coaching programmes.

“The main issue seems to be why we are teaching for such low fees. Why are we getting such massive results? We appeal to the administration to keep security concerns in mind, recognising that the poor, too, have the right to an education,” he said.

The educator further alleged that miscreants vandalised the office before opening fire and called on the administration to provide protection.

“The attackers completely vandalised the office and opened fire. The CCTV footage has been handed over to the authorities. We need protection; this is a matter for the administration to handle,” he said.

Senior officers reach spot

Following the firing, the Patna Senior Superintendent of Police, local SP and multiple police teams visited the scene and launched an investigation.

Police have not officially confirmed Khan Sir’s allegations regarding the involvement of any rival coaching institute and said all claims are being verified as part of the ongoing probe.

The investigation is continuing.
