Government should generously assist storm victims: Mayawati

BSP leaders Mayawati

Mayawati has demanded that the state government extend generous assistance to families affected by the recent severe storm in Uttar Pradesh, saying devastated families need support to restart their lives.

She also criticized the central government over the increase in petrol and diesel prices by Rs 3 per litre.

Posting on X on Saturday, Mayawati said the severe storm had caused massive destruction of life and property in many parts of Uttar Pradesh.

“The state government should generously assist the victims in every possible way so that they can rebuild their devastated and shattered families and restart their lives,” she said.

Mayawati also expressed concern over the continued rise in petroleum prices.

She said the central government’s decision to increase petrol and diesel prices by Rs 3 per litre would severely affect millions of poor people, working families, farmers and the middle class. According to her, the price rise would directly impact household livelihoods.

The BSP chief said the government should take necessary and meaningful steps to control inflation and prevent repeated price hikes that make life difficult for ordinary citizens.

It is noteworthy that more than 110 people have reportedly died and lakhs have been affected in the storm that struck several districts of Uttar Pradesh, including Bhadohi, Fatehpur, Sonbhadra and Badaun, on Tuesday night.
