Union Minister of Ayush Prataprao Jadhav, on Friday, announced that Goa would be the venue of this year’s Ayurveda Day celebrations. The minister’s declaration was made during his address at the Conference at Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya, Mount Abu, Rajasthan.
The event will be hosted by All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), Goa on September 23.
Underlining the importance of the venue, the minister said, “Goa provides the perfect global stage for Ayurveda Day. With its international outlook and deep roots in wellness, Goa will amplify this year’s theme – ‘Ayurveda for People & Planet’. We are not just celebrating a tradition; we are taking Ayurveda to the world as a sustainable solution for modern healthcare challenges.”
Earlier this year, the ministry announced this year’s celebration on a designated calendar date, September 23, changing the earlier practice of observing it on Dhanvantari Jayanti.
The first announcement for Ayurveda Day in India was made in 2016 by the Ministry of AYUSH. That year, the government decided to observe Dhanteras (two days before Diwali) as National Ayurveda Day, marking the birth anniversary of Lord Dhanvantari, the deity of Ayurveda.
According to an official document, nationwide events across all states and Union territories will be organised to expand the global outreach of the traditional Indian medicine system.
