Police have registered a case against five Muslim schoolgirls after a Hindu Class 12 student alleged that she was forced to wear a burqa and pressured to convert to Islam in Moradabad’s Bilari area.
According to the complaint filed by the victim’s brother, all six girls study in the same school in Class 12, and attend the same tuition classes.
The incident reportedly took place in Shahkunj Colony, Bilari, and was captured on a CCTV camera installed in a lane, police disclosed on Saturday.
The one minute and 10 second CCTV footage allegedly shows five girls wearing burqas, stopping the Hindu student on the street and making her wear a burqa. One of the girls is seen taking a burqa out of her bag and helping the victim put it on, while the others appear to keep watch to ensure no one approaches. The group reportedly moves away when they sense someone nearby.
In his written complaint to the police, the victim’s brother alleged that the girls had been repeatedly pressuring his minor sister to abandon Hinduism and embrace Islam, claiming it would change her destiny. He further alleged that they attempted to influence her thinking against her own religion and that the act was part of a larger conspiracy to forcibly convert her.
The complainant also alleged the possible involvement of an Islamic organization, claiming that the girls may have been acting under its influence to target Hindu minor girls. He has demanded a thorough investigation and strict action against those involved.
The incident has sparked anger among local Hindu organizations, which have called for stringent action and demanded that educational spaces be kept free from any form of religious coercion or conversion.
SP (Rural) Kunwar Akash said, “Based on the complaint, an FIR has been registered. The matter is under investigation, and further legal action will be taken based on the facts that emerge during the probe.” Police said the investigation is ongoing and all aspects of the case are being examined.
