The Opposition INDIA bloc’s march from Parliament to the Election Commission of India to protest against the alleged vote theft in 2024 Lok Sabha elections and the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar was stopped by the Delhi Police, citing a lack of permission for the march.
Several Opposition MPs, including Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi, and Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav were detained.
Over 300 Opposition Members of Parliament from both the Houses, including those from the Aam Aadmi Party, took part in the protest march.
The march came amid Parliament protests against the ongoing SIR exercise in Bihar and days after Rahul Gandhi’s “vote theft” allegations.
On August 7, Rahul Gandhi had alleged rigging in the 2024 Lok Sabha election, sharing what he described as “criminal evidence” to back his claim.
He gave a detailed presentation on how the election at the Bengaluru Central Lok Sabha constituency was manipulated. Rahul claimed that there are over one lakh fake voters in the constituency.
Following this, the Congress launched an online campaign to mobilise public support against what it termed as “vote chori” (vote theft).
Rahul Gandhi shared a post on his X handle, urging citizens to register on a newly launched web portal: votechori.in/ecdemand, or give a missed call to 9650003420 to support the cause.
The 2025 Monsoon Session of Parliament has been marred by frequent disruptions, with opposition MPs staging protests, shouting slogans, and forcing repeated adjournments over issues such as alleged voter fraud, economic distress, and governance concerns.
