Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is observing a Seva Samarpan Pakhwada (Fortnight of Service and Dedication) from World Environment Day until International Yoga Day on June 21. As part of this campaign, the Delhi BJP has begun public outreach programmes across all 70 Delhi Assembly constituencies to mark the completion of 12 years of the Narendra Modi-led Central Government.

At an event in Karawal Nagar on Sunday, state BJP chief Harsh Malhotra said it was a matter of pride that, together with Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the government launched a Rs138-crore sewer development project for Karawal Nagar and substantially improved the cleanliness of the Yamuna River stretch between Sonia Vihar and Wazirabad.

CM Gupta stated that Karawal Nagar had long struggled with issues related to drainage, sewerage, drinking water supply, and basic infrastructure. The Delhi government is committed to providing permanent solutions to these challenges, and the foundation of the new project marks a major step in that direction.

She emphasized that her government’s objective is not merely to announce, but to deliver tangible results on the ground.

The Chief Minister pointed out that development projects worth over ₹300 crore have been approved for Karawal Nagar over the past year through various funding mechanisms, including the Chief Minister’s Development Fund, the MLA Fund, and the Yamuna Paar Development Board.

She announced that work on the Rs 138-crore sewer line project has officially begun. Sewer lines will be laid across Sonia Vihar, Milan Garden, Chauhan Patti, Sabhapur Extension, and several other localities. Simultaneously, old water pipelines are being replaced, aging sewer systems are being cleaned using mechanized methods, and efforts are underway to improve drinking water supply.

She announced that the government would seriously pursue the widening and beautifying the road from Signature Bridge to the Pushta Road and would coordinate with relevant agencies and legal authorities to move the project forward. Additionally, the government is exploring the possibility of developing a modern and attractive riverfront along the Yamuna in Sonia Vihar, a project that could significantly boost regional development and tourism.

She expressed confidence that these projects would directly benefit lakhs of residents and substantially improve the quality of life in the region.
