In yet another mid-air scare, a Delhi-bound Air India Express flight made an emergency landing at Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport in Lucknow following a smoke alarm, according to multiple reports.
The Airbus A320 was coming from Bagdogra and reportedly had 148 people, including six crew members on board.
The smoke was detected by the crew members, following which the plane was diverted to Lucknow airport, where it landed safely at 5.18 pm on Monday.
After the landing, passengers were deboarded and provided with refreshments. Subsequently, they were accommodated on alternative flights to Delhi.
A few months ago, a Mumbai-bound Air India flight returned to Delhi and made an emergency landing after one of its engines shut down.
The Boeing 777 aircraft returned to the Delhi airport roughly one hour into its flight after its right engine suffered an unexpected shutdown.
Following the incident, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said it will investigate the incident concerning the Delhi-Mumbai Air India flight.
These incidents come months after an Air India London-bound flight, AI-171, crashed shortly after takeoff in Ahmedabad on June 12 this year.
The plane was bound for London’s Gatwick airport with 230 passengers and 12 crew members. Only one passenger survived the crash. Dozens were also killed on the ground as the plane crashed just seconds after takeoff from the Ahmedabad airport.
