Jammu and Kashmir police have approached Interpol to issue a red corner notice against south Kashmir’s Qazigund-based Dr Muzaffar in connection with the inter-state white collar terror module busted in the wake of the Delhi blast, sources said on Thursday.
Muzaffar is the brother of Dr Adil Ahmad Rather, who was among the eight people, including three doctors, arrested in connection with the Red Fort blast. Of the eight arrested, seven suspects are from Kashmir.
Dr Muzaffar’s name surfaced during interrogation of the arrested persons. They are reported to have said he was part of the doctors’ team that visited Turkiye in 2021 along with Dr Muzammil Ganaie and Dr Umar Nabi, who was driving the explosives-laden car that exploded outside the Red Fort on Monday, killing a dozen people.
Police immediately tried to trace Dr Muzaffar only to find that he had left India for Dubai in August. At present, he is believed to be in Afghanistan. The three doctors were in Turkiye for 21 days.
On Wednesday, Turkiye’s Directorate of Communications Centre for Countering Disinformation put out a statement denying reports that its territory was being used for radicalisation. “The media reports claiming that Turkiye is linked to terrorist acts in India and provides logistical, diplomatic, and financial support to terrorist groups are part of a malicious disinformation campaign aimed at damaging bilateral relations,” it said.
It said the claim that Turkiye engages in “radicalisation activities” targeting India or any other country is “purely misinformative and lacks any factual basis”.
Meanwhile, the Counter Intelligence Wing (CIK), Kashmir, on Thursday conducted raids at 13 locations across the valley and reportedly seized 20 digital devices, including smartphones, laptops, iPads and tablets.
The raids and searches were aimed at tracing networks having links with the Delhi blast incident.
The J&K Police accompanied by security forces yesterday raided more than 600 locations in Kashmir to thwart attempts of revival of the banned Jamaat-i-Islami. Several people have been rounded up in this connection.
