Cop suspended for allegedly thrashing VDG member in J&K’s Doda

Taking serious note of alleged thrashing of a Village Defence Group (VDG) member by a cop, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Doda district, Sandeep Mehta has suspended the constable Mohammad Zia.

According to officials, the SSP has ordered the suspension of Selection Grade Constable (SgCt) Mohammad Zia of Police Post Premnagar with immediate effect. He has been attached to District Police Lines (DPL) pending further proceedings.

A departmental enquiry has been initiated, with a senior officer appointed as the enquiry officer. The officer has been directed to conduct a comprehensive investigation and submit a report within two weeks.

The SSP has also ordered scrutiny of the conduct of the then Station House Officer (SHO) of Police Station Thathri, now DySP (P) Afeer Jaleel. The enquiry officer will specifically examine his role and recommend further action if required.

Police authorities assured that anyone found guilty of misconduct will face strict action under law.
