Samvidhan Divas 2025: President releases digital versions of Constitution in 9 languages; says architects wanted to protect citizens’ rights

As India marks the 76th anniversary of the adoption of its Constitution, celebrations were held at the Samvidhan Sadan (Old Parliament House) on Wednesday. Present on the occasion to mark the Constitution Day were President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President CP Radhakrishnan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Rajya Sabha Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge, Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari and Kiren Rijiju, and several other leaders.

Constitution Day Celebrations at Samvidhan Sadan: Highlights

Leaders read the Preamble

As the celebrations came to a close at the Samvidhan Sadan, President Droupadi Murmu led Vice President CP Radhakrishnan, PM Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, Leader of House in Rajya Sabha JP Nadda, Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi, Rajya Sabha LoP Mallikarjun Kharge and other parliamentarians, in reading aloud the Preamble, on the Constitution Day 2025.

President Murmu addresses on the occasion of Constitution Day

Addressing the august gathering at the Samvidhan Sadan (Old Parliament House), President Droupadi Murmu underscored that the architects of the Constitution wanted the citizens’ personal and democratic rights to be always protected. Bringing 25 crore people out of poverty has been one of the biggest achievements of the country, President Murmu said at the Constitution Day event.

“I am delighted to be among you all on the historic occasion of Constitution Day. On this very day, November 26, 1949, in this very Central Hall of the Constitution House, the members of the Constituent Assembly completed the task of drafting the Constitution of India. On this very day that year, we, the people of India, adopted our Constitution. After independence, the Constituent Assembly also served as India’s interim Parliament. Baba Saheb Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar, Chairman of the Drafting Committee, was one of the principal architects of our Constitution…”

The President further said that women, youth, members of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, farmers, the middle class, and the new middle class are all strengthening our democratic system. “Women-led development will commence through Nari Shakti,” she added.

President Murmu said the Constitution is a guiding document to shun the colonial mindset and adopt nationalistic thinking. She also referred to the abrogation of Article 370 that granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir, stating that the nation has been freed from a prideful political obstacle.

Addressing on the occasion of the Constitution Day 2025, Vice President CP Radhakrishnan noted that the Constitution of Independent Bharat was adopted on this great day in 1949. Extending his warm greetings to all Indians, the VP said, “Our extraordinary leaders, Babasaheb Dr BR Ambedkar, Dr Rajendra Prasad, N Gopalaswamy Ayyangar, Alladi Krishnaswamy Iyer, KM Munshi, Durga Bai Deshmukh, and other distinguished members, crafted this Constitution so that in every page, we see the soul of our nation.”

Constitution Day celebrations at Samvidhan Sadan

The soul of our Constitution has proved that Bharat is one and it will be one forever, Radhakrishnan said further, adding that the Samvidhan reflects our strong commitment towards social justice and economic empowerment of weaker sections.

In the spirit of our Constitution-makers, we all should work together towards a ‘Viksit Bharat’ goal during this ‘Amrit Kaal’, the Vice President added.

President releases translated digital versions of Constitution in 9 languages

President Droupadi Murmu has released digital versions of the Constitution of India in nine different languages. The translated digital versions of the Constitution of India have been released in nine languages, including Malayalam, Marathi, Nepali, Punjabi, Bodo, Kashmiri, Telugu, Odia and Assamese.

Nation respectfully salutes architects of Indian Constitution: Om Birla

Speaking during the Constitution Day celebrations at Samvidhan Sadan, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said the nation respectfully salutes Dr Rajendra Prasad, President of the Constituent Assembly, the chief architect Dr BR Ambedkar, and all esteemed members whose extraordinary knowledge, vision, and tireless efforts gave the country a Constitution that guarantees justice, equality, fraternity, respect, and dignity for every citizen.

“This Central Chamber of the Constituent Assembly is the sacred place where, after intense discussion, dialogue, and deliberation, our Constitution was shaped; the aspirations of the people were enshrined in constitutional provisions. Under the guidance of our Constitution, over the past seven decades, we have formulated policies and laws to achieve the goals of social justice and inclusive development. Under the guidance of our Constitution, we have embarked on a transformative journey of good governance and socio-economic development…,” Birla said.

The Lok Sabha Speaker further expressed hope that India will become a developed nation by 2047 if the Constitution is followed in letter and spirit. Birla further noted that after long deliberations, the framers of the Constitution adopted the key document on this day in 1949, paving the way for India to become a vibrant democracy.
