The Congress Wednesday criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi over US President Donald Trump’s repeated claims of stopping Operation Sindoor.

Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh, took to platform X to mock PM’s relationship with Trump, saying, “So far he has said it 54 times. He has said it in the US, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and the UK.

He has said it mid-flight and on land. Now President Trump has said it again, while addressing business leaders in Japan last evening.”No wonder his good friend in New Delhi does not want to hug him anymore.”

The controversy surrounds Trump’s repeated claims of brokering an India-Pakistan ceasefire, which India has refuted. The Congress party has been questioning PM Modi’s silence on Trump’s claims, with Ramesh asking whether the PM will address these claims and the increasingly fraught Indo-US relationship.

The Congress leader has been vocal about Trump’s claims, stating that the PM’s silence is notable. “Will the PM address these claims and speak of the increasingly fraught Indo-US relationship? Will he address the concerns of lakhs of Indian H1B holders? Will he provide some assurances to the crores of farmers and workers who stand to lose their livelihood due to his good friend’s tariffs?” Ramesh had asked.
