Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Wednesday criticized the government’s economic policies, stating that they are out of touch with the reality faced by farmers across the country.

Taking to social media platform X, Ramesh said: “The PM and his colleagues are trying to manufacture a bullish sentiment on the economy. They are simply running away from the bearish reality that stares farmers across the country. Market prices for maize, soyabean, moong, arhar, cotton, and bajra are well BELOW the corresponding MSP. This is why farmers’ organisations have been demanding a legal guarantee for MSP – something the ousted Vice President of India had also strongly supported.”

Ramesh’s remarks highlight the growing concerns among farmers over the lack of remunerative prices for their produce. Despite the government’s claims of economic growth, farmers are struggling to make ends meet due to low market prices, he said. The Minimum Support Price (MSP) is a crucial factor in ensuring that farmers receive fair prices for their crops.

Farmers’ organizations have consistently demanded a legal guarantee for MSP to protect their interests. Ramesh’s statement underscores the need for the government to take concrete steps to address the concerns of the agricultural sector.

The Congress leader’s remarks come amid growing criticism of the government’s economic policies, with many questioning their effectiveness in tackling the country’s broader economic challenges. he government’s policies have been criticized for being inadequate in addressing these challenges. Ramesh’s statement is seen as a part of the ongoing debate on the country’s economic policies and the need for substantial reforms to boost growth and development.
