A high-level delegation of the Coal India Corporate Safety Board visited Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) to review safety practices and infrastructure across its operational areas.
The delegation, led by C. P. Garg, Executive Director (Safety), Coal India Limited, comprised representatives of major trade unions and industry bodies, including N. K. Singh (BMS), Akhtar Javed Osmani (HMS), C. J. Joseph (AITUC), G.K. Srivastava (CITU) and R. K. Sharma (IMMA). MCL Chairman-cum-Managing Director Uday Anant Kaole welcomed the team.
During the visit, the delegation inspected the Himgir Bundia Underground Mine, Samleswari Open Cast Project, Basic Training Institute (BTI) and Gou Amrit Gaushala in Lakhanpur Area, besides the Chandra Shekhar Azad Eco Park in Orient Area.
The members appreciated the underground and surface infrastructure at Himgir Bundia Mine, safety measures at Samleswari OCP, and MCL’s environmental initiatives. They also interacted with departmental and contractual workers and experienced the Virtual Reality-based safety training modules at BTI, commending the company’s use of modern technology to enhance safety awareness.
The board offered suggestions to further strengthen safety standards, which MCL officials assured would be implemented across its operations.
