CM Omar Abdullah meets PM Modi, seeks early restoration of J&K’s statehood

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Thursday and discussed a range of issues concerning Jammu and Kashmir, with a special focus on the early restoration of statehood.

According to a post shared by the Chief Minister’s office on X, the meeting covered the state of the economy, the pace of development and measures needed to accelerate growth in the Union Territory.

Omar highlighted the need for continued support from the Government of India to strengthen connectivity, generate employment, expand infrastructure and improve public welfare across Jammu and Kashmir.

The Chief Minister is understood to have stressed that restoring statehood at the earliest would help deepen democratic governance and support long-term development efforts in the region.

He also congratulated Prime Minister Modi on completing 12 uninterrupted years in office, acknowledging his leadership at the national level.
The meeting comes amid ongoing political discussions over Jammu and Kashmir’s administrative future and efforts to boost economic activity and infrastructure development in the Union Territory.
