Union Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal has confirmed that the government is actively involved in assisting Major (Retd.) Vikrant Kumar Jaitly, the brother of actress Celina Jaitly, who has been detained in the United Arab Emirates for over a year.

“We are in touch with UAE authorities and have conducted four consular visits. We are also closely coordinating with his family, including his wife, and offering all possible assistance,” Jaiswal said. He added that following directions from the Delhi High Court on November 3, the government is taking steps to provide Major Vikrant with the support he needs. Major Vikrant who has been living in the UAE since 2016 working in a trading and risk-management firm, was reportedly taken into custody on September 6 2024 under circumstances that remain unclear. Since then, communication with him has been minimal.

Additionally, the court has also asked the MEA to appoint a nodal officer to act as a liaison between the family and the foreign authorities managing the case.

Celina’s legal team has argued in the court that holding someone for such an extended period, that too without proper access to lawyers or regular contact with family members is a violation of basic human rights according to international norms.

The next hearing will take place on December 4, 2025. By then, a detailed status report on Major Vikrant’s situation must be submitted. Meanwhile, Celina has also shared glimpses of her journey and her emotional struggle regarding brother on social media.
