A case has been registered against BJP’s state vice-president and Guruvayur constituency candidate B Gopalakrishnan for his controversial ‘Hindu MLA’ remark.
Following a complaint received regarding his controversial remarks, the Thrissur District Collector took action on the instructions of Chief Electoral Officer Dr. Ratan U. Khelkar. The order to register a case against the BJP leader was issued for violating Section 123(3) of the Representation of the People Act (1951) and the provisions of the Election Commission’s Model Code of Conduct (MCC).
The Guruvayur Temple Police filed the case against Gopalakrishnan following the directive from the Chief Electoral Officer to the District Collector on a CPM complaint that he had violated the model code of conduct and made a communal statement.
Earlier, the Chief Electoral Officer had sought a report from the District Collector on the controversial statement. The action was based on the District Collector’s report that B Gopalakrishnan had violated the model code of conduct.
The controversial video has been removed from social media following the order of the District Collector.
Meanwhile, the Kerala Students Union (KSU), the student wing of Congress, moved the Kerala High Court against K Gopalkrishnan for his controversial ‘Hindu MLA’ remark, seeking action, including the disqualification of the candidate.
Gopalakrishnan, in the video, purportedly claimed that the constituency had not elected a Hindu MLA for nearly five decades and alleged that both the Left and the Congress-led fronts had not been fielding candidates from the community.
Guruvayur is an international pilgrimage centre and the “land of Lord Guruvayurappan” has been in the hands of “temple thieves” for the past five decades, Gopalakrishnan alleged in the purported video, “Why is there no Hindu MLA in Guruvayur so far?”
