In a significant political move ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati is set to publicly launch her nephew, Akash Anand, at a massive rally in Lucknow on October 9th — the death anniversary of party founder Kanshi Ram.

This is the first time Anand will share the main stage with Mayawati to address the party’s core cadre, marking his formal introduction as the party’s future face.

The state-level event, being held at the Kanshi Ram Memorial, is expected to draw over five lakh BSP workers from across Uttar Pradesh. Top party leaders, including National General Secretary Satish Chandra Mishra, State President Vishwanath Pal, and others have been actively overseeing preparations, including accommodation, security, and logistics.

This year’s commemoration holds special significance as the BSP appears to be reawakening from a prolonged political slumber. The party is deploying both traditional outreach methods, such as posters, pamphlets, and wall paintings, and modern strategies including social media campaigns. Slogans like “Dalit, Pichde, Alpasankhyak ki awaaz, Bahujan Samaj ka naya aagaz” (Voice of Dalits, OBCs, and minorities, a new beginning for Bahujan society) are being used to energize the base.

For the BSP cadre, the rally is more than a tribute – it’s a show of strength and revival. Most attendees are expected to arrive in Lucknow a day earlier, with arrangements for food and lodging already underway at Ramabai Ambedkar Maidan.

Top police officials inspected the rally site on October 6 to ensure security, though critics say the government has displayed selective enforcement, citing repeated denials of permission for opposition rallies.
