The iconic Golden Temple in Amritsar has once again been targeted with a bomb threat, prompting a massive security operation and raising serious concerns over the safety of one of Sikhism’s holiest sites.
The threat, received via email by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), claimed that RDX explosives would be placed inside pipes and detonated within the temple complex.
The contents of the threatening email have not been publicly disclosed for security reasons.
However, SGPC officials confirmed that bomb disposal squads and sniffer dog units were immediately dispatched, and security around the temple has been intensified. Personnel from the Border Security Force (BSF) and Punjab Police commandos are maintaining a tight vigil in and around the premises.
SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami revealed that Monday’s threat was sent using a fake ID impersonating the Kerala Chief Minister and a former Chief Justice, while today’s message originated from an email under the name “Asif Kapoor.” The same email was reportedly sent to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
Dhami expressed concern over the repeated targeting of faith centres. “Since July 14, we’ve received multiple threatening emails. This seems like a deliberate attempt to disrupt pilgrim visits and instill fear among devotees. The Golden Temple is not just a Sikh institution but a spiritual home for millions,” he said.
SGPC Secretary Pratap Singh echoed the concerns, calling the threats a clear attempt to disturb communal harmony.
“These mischief-makers have no religion—they only aim to spread fear and divide society. The Golden Temple represents unity and peace, and we will not allow such elements to succeed,” he stated.
In a strong statement, Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan strongly condemned the bomb threat at the Golden Temple and said that the perpetrators will not succeed in their ill intentions. “Miscreants want to disturb the communal harmony in Punjab and spread fear among people,” he said in a statement.
He appealed to the people of Punjab that they need not fear anyone as our Government has adopted a zero tolerance approach towards mischievous elements and they will be arrested soon. Terrorism has no religion and they will not be spared in their nefarious activities.
