Amid ongoing speculation over the leadership of Bihar after Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the Janata Dal (United) has, for the first time, made its stance clear, indicating that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will lead the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government in the state going forward.

Senior JDU leader Vijay Kumar Chaudhary stated that the BJP, being the largest party in the alliance, should take the lead in governing Bihar in the future. His remarks come at a time when political discussions are intensifying over succession planning and power-sharing within the NDA in the state.

Chaudhary’s statement marks a significant shift in the JDU’s public position, as the party has so far maintained a cautious approach on the issue of leadership beyond Nitish Kumar. The clarification is likely to fuel fresh political debates and recalibrate alliance dynamics ahead of upcoming elections.

The BJP has steadily strengthened its position in Bihar over recent years. However, political observers view this as a strategic move by the JDU to reaffirm its alliance commitment while acknowledging the BJP’s growing dominance within the NDA.

Nitish Kumar, who has been a central figure in Bihar politics for nearly two decades, has not publicly commented on the leadership question. His future role and the transition plan remain subjects of keen interest among political circles.

The development is expected to have broader implications for the NDA’s electoral strategy in Bihar, as well as its internal power structure.
