The Election Commission of India Monday reported a significant response to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar, with over 1.6 lakh claims and objections received from various stakeholders. The claims and objections were received from August 1 to August 11.

As per the breakdown of claims and objections pertaining to National Parties, the Bharatiya Janata Party has submitted the highest number of claims and objections, with 53,338 cases. Other national parties, including the Indian National Congress (17,549), Bahujan Samaj Party (74), and Communist Party of India (Marxist) (899), have also filed claims and objections.

Among the state parties, the Janata Dal (United) has submitted 36,550 claims and objections, while the Rashtriya Janata Dal has filed 47,506 cases. Other state parties, including the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) and Rashtriya Lok Janshakti Party, have also submitted claims and objections.

A total of 10,570 claims and objections have been received directly from electors regarding the inclusion of eligible electors and the exclusion of ineligible electors. Out of these, 127 cases have been disposed of after verification.

The electoral commission has received 54,432 forms from new electors who have attained 18 years of age or above.
As per SIR orders, no name can be deleted from the draft list published on August 1, 2025, without notice and passing a speaking order by the ERO/AERO after conducting an inquiry and giving a fair and reasonable opportunity to the affected parties. A speaking order is a self-explanatory order that details the reasons for reaching a particular conclusion.

The poll panel is working to ensure that the electoral rolls are updated and accurate, following the principles of transparency and fairness.
