Senior Congress leader K C Venugopal on Friday alleged that fake Aadhaar cards were being printed in CPI(M) offices in Kannur to cast fraudulent votes, prompting a legal notice from the left party.
Speaking to media persons, Venugopal publicly alleged that fake Aadhaar cards were being printed on the third floor of the CPI(M) Payyanur area committee office.
He claimed the move was aimed at manipulating the electoral process. The Congress party also lodged a complaint with the State Election Commission over the issue.
In response to Venugopal’s fake Aadhaar card allegations, the Kannur district unit of the CPI(M) issued a legal notice to K C Venugopal. The notice was issued by advocate K Vishwam on behalf of CPI(M)’s Kannur district secretary K K Ragesh
Meanwhile, following the Congress party’s complaint, the State Election Commission has sought a detailed report from Kannur District Collector.
The development comes after CPI(M) MP P Sandosh Kumar accused Rahul Gandhi of running a malicious campaign against the Left Democratic Front (LDF) in Kerala, and raised concerns over the alleged “corruption” in collection and utilisation of funds by the Congress party in the aftermath of Wayanad landslides.
In a strongly-worded letter written to Gandhi, Kumar said, “I am constrained to write this rather unpleasant letter to you in response to your untruthful, baseless, and malicious campaign against the LDF in Kerala, where you have levelled baseless, distasteful and unsubstantiated allegations against the LDF leadership and the Left parties in general.”
The elections for the Kerala Legislative Assembly are scheduled to be held on April 9, with the counting of votes on May 4.
