Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday paid obeisance at the holy Khatu Shyam Baba shrine in Sikar district and prayed for a BJP victory in the recently held Assembly polls, as well as for peace and prosperity in the state and the country.

Speaking to the media after offering prayers at the shrine, Sarma expressed confidence that the ruling BJP would retain power in Assam, winning 90 to 100 of the total 126 seats that went to the polls on April 9.

In an interaction with mediapersons, the visiting Chief Minister said, “I occasionally come to Khatu Dham to pay obeisance to Baba Shyam. This time, I have come after concluding the hectic Assembly elections in my state. I prayed before Baba Shyam to continue showering blessings on us, the state, and the country.”

He described elections in Assam as a festive exercise, saying that people participate with enthusiasm, dancing and singing, and celebrating the spirit of democracy without violence.

On the election outcome, he said, “I am confident that the BJP will secure a big victory. We are set to win 90 to 100 out of the total 126 seats.”

Responding briefly to allegations made by Congress leader and chief spokesperson Pawan Khera, Sarma said he did not wish to comment extensively at a place of religious sanctity. However, he added that the accusations were “fabricated,” alleging the use of “photoshop and artificial intelligence (AI)” to create forged documents.

“Let the law take its own course in this matter,” he said.

From Khatu Dham, the Assam Chief Minister proceeded to Salasar Dham and is scheduled to fly to New Delhi later in the evening by a special aircraft.
