Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday laid the foundation stone for redevelopment of Punaura Dham, also known as Maa Janaki Janambhoomi Temple in Sitamarhi, Bihar, widely considered to be the birthplace of Sita Mata.

The Union minister said the construction of a magnificent Sita Temple at the birthplace of Maa Janaki is not only a matter of pride for Bihar but also a unique opportunity for the entire nation. In the coming years, Punaura Dham will emerge as a novel focal point of India’s faith and culture.

In a significant move ahead of the assembly elections in Bihar, the state government has sanctioned Rs 882.87 crore to transform the Punaura Dham into a world-class spiritual destination, drawing inspiration from Ayodhya’s Ram Temple vision.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said the state government is determined to complete the construction of the grand temple at Punaura Dham, Sitamarhi soon. It will be comprehensively developed, mirroring the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Tirtha Kshetra in Ayodhya. The construction of the grand temple of Maa Janaki at Punaura Dham is a source of immense pride for all Indians, and particularly for the people of Bihar.

Later, addressing a rally, Amit Shah attacked Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and RJD leaders Lalu Prasad Yadav and Tejashwi Yadav for raising objections against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list in Bihar and questioning the central government for conducting the Operation Sindoor.

He said India eliminated terrorists by entering Pakistan’s territory. “During the Congress government, people would carry out bomb blasts and escape without consequences. We avenged the Pulwama attack. We struck Pakistan inside their territory. This is the NDA government. No one has the right to play with the country’s security,” he added.

On the SIR of the voter list in Bihar, he said voter list scrutiny is not happening for the first time. Rahul Gandhi should stop politicising the issue, as this process was started by Jawahar Lal Nehru.

Shah also said that the Congress leader is raising the issue because the grand old party has been losing again and again. He is now raising the SIR in Bihar because his party is going to lose again.
