The Allahabad High Court Wednesday granted conditional bail to a Meerut resident accused of uploading a satirical video featuring PM Narendra Modi and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on his WhatsApp status.

An FIR by SSI Kapil Dev of Jani Police Station was filed against one Javed in Meerut on May 12, 2025. A case was registered under Section 152 of the IPC.

The FIR accused Javed of falsely posting news on his WhatsApp status and Instagram ID during tensions between India and Pakistan following the Pahalgam attack.

Javed was accused of posting a video showing PM Modi appealing to the Pakistani Prime Minister to “join the war” in a bid to “keep people (citizens of both the nations) silent for five years” as they were unhappy with the leaders and looked for ways to oust them.

Petitioner Javed’s lawyer told the court that he had no criminal record and as the police had already filed a chargesheet in the case, he was entitled to be released on bail.

The public prosecutor opposed Javed’s bail application.

However, the court, headed by a single bench of Justice Arun Kumar Singh Deswal, granted Javed’s conditional bail.
