Sharad Pawar-led NCP MLA Rohit Pawar demanded suspension of Union Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu until the investigation into the air crash on January 28 that killed Ajit Pawar is over.

Naidu is allegedly “close” to the owners of the Delhi-based air charter company VSR on whose aircraft the late Maharashtra deputy CM flew on the fateful day.

Rohit Pawar, who is the nephew of the late Ajit Pawar, also alleged that the owners of the air chartered company, whose Learjet carrying his uncle crashed in Baramati, is being “protected” since the Union civil aviation minister belongs to the Chandrababu Naidu-led Telugu Desam Party (TDP), the BJP’s NDA partner.

He said some former ministers from Maharashtra and top TDP ministers from Andhra Pradesh attended the marriage of Rohit Singh, son of the VSR owner VK Singh. Some politicians are still using its Learjet planes. Naidu should not continue as civil aviation minister on moral grounds. A preliminary probe report has not yet come out as yet, but there are reasons to believe that efforts are being made to save the company by some people in power.

“VSR air charter company must be investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) under a committee comprising Opposition party leaders, our family members and a judge,” Rohit Pawar demanded while speaking to media persons here on Wednesday.

“If this is an assassination, there are two possibilities. We (the NCP) would either go with the NDA due to the merger or Ajit Dada would have to give up power. The second possibility would have upset the political calculations of a certain group. So, perhaps such a group could be behind this since they did not want any NCP merger,” he said.
