Weeks after the controversy over abusive remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mother during the ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’, a political storm has erupted over an AI-generated video posted on Bihar Congress’s social media platforms, depicting PM Modi and his late mother.
The video, titled “Sahab ke sapnon mein aayee Maa” (Mother appears in Sahab’s dream), shows a character resembling PM Modi dreaming of a figure, resembling his deceased mother, scolding him for exploiting her name for political mileage.
The NDA has condemned the video calling it “disrespectful”, accusing the Congress of crossing all boundaries of political decency. However, Congress leaders have defended the video, saying it is not disrespectful but a symbolic representation of a mother educating her son on ‘raj dharma’.
However, state Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary called it an insult to PM Modi’s mother and warned that “Bihar never forgives those who insult a mother.” In his post on X, he wrote: “The Congress party has crossed all limits of indecency. It is now misusing AI technology to insult the late mother of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This is a sign of mental bankruptcy and reflects the Congress’s degraded mindset. It is an insult to all mothers of this country. Modi Ji’s mother is no longer with us, but Congress’s low standards show they have no values.”
Union Minister Nityanand Rai also condemned the video, calling it a “shameful act” by Congress and RJD. “By creating and promoting an objectionable AI video, they have once again insulted the prime minister and his late mother. There’s a saying, ‘We will never change’. It seems Rahul and Tejashwi have taken it as a vow,” he said.
Senior JD (U) leader and Bihar minister Vijay Choudhary echoed the criticism, calling the Congress’s move “highly condemnable and insensitive”. “This shows the Opposition’s desperation. Creating such an AI video involving the prime minister’s mother is not just a breach of political decorum, but also an affront to the dignity of society,” he said.
However, Congress leader Pawan Khera dismissed the criticism. Contending that the video shows no disrespect, he questioned the BJP’s objections. “Just because a mother is shown trying to guide her son to do what is right, where is the disrespect, neither towards the mother, who we deeply respect, nor towards her son. There are ways to educate someone on their ‘raj dharma’. This is not disrespectful.”
