Adnan Sami has alleged that members of his staff were called “Indian dogs” by Kuwaiti officials at the airport in the West Asian country during their visit for a programme.
The 44-year-old renowned singer of Pakistani origin was scheduled to hold a live performance in the country. But things soon became unpleasant for the singer.
On 5 May, he posted a tweet containing pictures showing his fans warmly welcoming him to the country. On 6 May, Sami tweeted about the mistreatment while tagging the official Twitter handle of the Indian embassy in Kuwait.
“We came 2 ur city wt luv & our Indian brethren embraced us with it. U gave no support. Kuwaiti airport immigration mistreated my staff 4 no reason & called thm ‘Indian Dogs’! Wn u wr contacted u did nothing!! How dare d Kuwaitis behave like this with arrogance?!” he wrote.

The singer, who became an Indian citizen on 1 January 2016, got a prompt response from External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.
In another tweet addressed to MoS Home Kiren Rijiju’s tweet on the matter, Sami wrote: “Thank you so much for your concern my dear. @SushmaSwaraj is a lady full of heart & she is in touch with me & is looking after our people.. I’m so proud that she is our foreign minister & looks after us all over the world.”
It is, however, noteworthy that Rijiju’s tweet is no longer available. A tweet by the EAM on the matter, too, was later deleted but reports say that Swaraj asked Sami to speak to her on phone.
Sami has received support from his fans and other prominent names.
