Kerala police on Wednesday registered a case against Malayalam actress Shweta Menon after a complaint alleged that she made financial gains through her roles in movies having vulgar and obscene content.

The Ernakulam Central police have registered the first information report (FIR) against the actress after the Ernakulam Chief Judicial Magistrate Court issued the directive to the police based on a complaint filed by Martin Menachery, a public activist in Ernakulam.

The police have registered the FIR against Shwetha Menon under Section 67 A of the Information Technology Act, 2000, for making financial gains through her roles in movies having alleged vulgar and obscene content. The police have also included Sections 5 and 3 of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act in the FIR.

Martin Menachery, in his complaint alleged that Shwetha Menon is involved in the trade and distribution of sleazy visuals through adult websites. He claimed that she has used her roles in films to earn money by promoting such content, and that the visuals have been circulated widely through social media and adult sites.

The complaint cites intimate scenes from several Malayalam films in which Menon acted, including “Paleri Manikyam”, “Rathinirvedam”, and “Kalimannu” — the latter being a film directed by Blessy that featured real footage of the actress giving birth. A condom advertisement featuring the actress has also been included in the list of allegedly objectionable material.

The complaint was initially ignored by the police. However, as the police didn’t take action on his complaint, Martin approached the Ernakulam Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court and it is as per the court’s directive that the police registered the case against the actress.

The FIR alleged that Shweta Menon went nude in these films and ads with the alleged intention of financial benefit and these scenes were circulated on social media and adult websites for profit.

This development comes at a time when Shwetha is contesting for the post of president , Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) . Her name has been in the spotlight recently due to her candidacy, and the timing of the case has raised many eyebrows. The election is scheduled to be held on August 16.
