Acclaimed actress Tillotama Shome recently took to Instagram to share a nostalgic moment from her past. She posted a 2004 passport photo that had been rejected because of her smile.
In her caption, Tillotama explained the reason behind the rejection and reflected on the memories tied to that photo.
She wrote, “2004: The rejected passport photo because of the smile. And yet we kept it because I was leaving home to study in New York, on a full scholarship and had cut my hair short to save money and time on hair care.”

The actress further described how passport photos are more than just simple identification. They capture a moment in time, often filled with nervous energy, as they mark the beginning of a journey to an unfamiliar place.
She added, “Good things do happen. Hair does grow back, mostly. Nostalgia feels like memory without pain. There is only so much you can take of it, though.”
While Tillotama’s Instagram post took followers on a journey through time, her career is also stepping into an exciting new chapter. The actress’s Bengali film ‘Baksho Bondi: Shadowbox’ will open the prestigious Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) 2025. This highly anticipated event will mark the festival’s opening night on August 14, 2025, in Melbourne, Australia.

‘Baksho Bondi’ has already garnered attention on the global stage, having had its world premiere at the Berlin Film Festival earlier this year. Co-directed by Tanushree Das and Saumyananda Sahi, the film is a powerful story of love, resilience, and the quiet strength of a woman.
Set in the heart of a dusty Kolkata suburb, the film’s protagonist, Maya, is portrayed by Tillotama.
The IFFM, supported by the Victorian Government, will run from August 14 to 24, 2025, with the IFFM Awards Night scheduled for August 15. The awards will recognize outstanding achievements in both film and OTT categories, celebrating the best of Indian cinema and storytelling from around the world.
