Talk about politics meeting cinema! Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy decided to borrow a little Malayalam blockbuster magic this week, but with a political twist. At a UDF campaign roadshow in Nemom constituency, ahead of the April 9 Assembly elections, Reddy delivered a memorable punchline straight from your favourite Mohanlal movie.
What was the dialogue?
Addressing party workers, Reddy pulled out the iconic dialogue from the 2000 Malayalam film ‘Narasimham’ starring Mohanlal. The original line, “Nee po mone Dinesha,” is one of Malayalam cinema’s most legendary one-liners, often seen in memes and social media trolls. But Reddy, ever the showman, adapted it to politics: “Nee po mone Vijaya!”
The crowd went wild. He didn’t stop there, Reddy openly declared that Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan’s time is over and that his “expiry date has passed.” In other words, the UDF is ready to take over, and it’s their turn to lead the state.
“Your time is over. Your expiry date is over. You don’t have any time to continue. Now, the UDF’s time has come,” Reddy said.
Alongside him at the roadshow was UDF candidate KS Sabarinathan, rallying local voters and soaking in the Mohanlal-inspired theatrics. Kerala’s 140-seat Assembly is all set for polls on April 9, and clearly, the campaign is heating up.
Why “Nee po mone Dinesha” is so popular
The dialogue isn’t just famous for sounding cool. It’s philosophical. Recently, Mohanlal spoke about it on the MyGov Podcast, sharing why the line still resonates 23 years after ‘Narasimham’ hit the screens. According to the actor, it’s not just mass hero bravado, it’s about facing life with responsibility and courage.
“‘Nee po mone Dinesha…’ is a very beautiful dialogue. It feels like it speaks directly to life, but it is not a casual attitude,” Mohanlal explained, “It conveys the idea that whatever comes my way, I will face it. I am responsible for all my actions.”
Fans of the film will remember that Mohanlal plays Poovalli Induchoodan, a fearless and principled man who stands up against injustice.
Directed by Shaji Kailas and written by Ranjith, ‘Narasimham’ released in 2000 and was an industry-defining hit. It’s a classic tale of justice, betrayal, redemption, with Mohanlal’s Induchoodan wrongly imprisoned and then returning to confront those who ruined his life. Veteran actor Thilakan plays his estranged father.
