The gossip mill in Tamil cinema just got a fresh jolt. A film that hasn’t even reached theatres is already making headlines. Scenes from ‘Jana Nayagan’, the much-anticipated film starring actor-turned-political leader Vijay, reportedly surfaced online, and now the cyber police are stepping in.

It started as whispers on fan pages but quickly turned into full-blown legal fight with production team demanding action and authorities launching a probe.

Cyber crime case registered after complaint

The Cyber Crime Wing of the Tamil Nadu Police has officially begun a detailed investigation into the alleged leak.

The complaint came from R Udayakumar, Production Controller of KVN Productions. He urged urgent intervention, saying unreleased footage had been unlawfully accessed, downloaded, copied, and circulated online.

According to the complaint, this wasn’t a random leak. As many as 21 individuals were named for their alleged involvement in what is being described as a piracy network.

The production team stressed that the film represents a massive financial and creative investment.

Police confirmed that a case has been registered and cyber forensic teams have been deployed. Their immediate goal is to track the source of the leak and prevent further circulation. More action is expected as the investigation moves forward.

Production team demands strict action

The complaint didn’t just stop at reporting the leak. Udayakumar asked for immediate blocking of the footage across social media platforms and digital channels. He also requested authorities to preserve crucial digital evidence, which could help identify those responsible.

The production house further demanded that all electronic devices allegedly used in the offence including mobile phones, laptops, storage devices, and even cloud accounts be seized. The request also included tracing the full distribution chain.

That means identifying not just the original uploader, but also every intermediary and recipient involved in sharing the leaked scenes.
