For context, Vijay’s 2023 blockbuster ‘Leo’ had crossed around 1.1 million interests, and that was with a clear release plan. ‘Jana Nayagan’ is nearly matching that record while stuck in uncertainty.
In simple words: the buzz is real.
CBFC trouble pushes film to revising committee
The trouble started when the filmmakers were informed at the last minute that the film was being sent to a revising committee.
According to the producers, the movie was earlier expected to receive a UA 16+ certificate. That sudden change caused panic and legal action.
On January 6, producer KVN Productions approached the Madras High Court, questioning why the certification process changed so late.
Things escalated fast. The case reached the Supreme Court, where the producers asked for quick relief to secure the censor certificate.
Last week, the Supreme Court dismissed the plea, asking the producers to return to the Madras High Court. The next hearing for relief is scheduled on January 20.
The producers had challenged an interim order that stayed a single-judge direction to grant certification.
For now, the case, and the film, remain stuck.
