The death of television actress Sanchita Ugale has shaken the Indian entertainment industry. The incident took place on the evening of June 14 at Sai Santoshi Building in Achole village, Nalasopara East. Officials said Sanchita was found hanging from a ceiling fan in her bedroom using a saree. The room was locked from the inside. Family members rushed her to a Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

Sanchita was 22 years old. She had made a name for herself in Indian television, starring in shows including Kumkum Bhagya and Dilwali Dulha Le Jayegi, as well as the drama Wagle Ki Duniya. She also appeared in the Bollywood period film Chhaava (2025), starring Vicky Kaushal and Rashmika Mandanna, where she played the role of Tarabai.

Her father, Machinda Ugale, filed a complaint with the Achole police on June 15, following which a case was registered. Police are currently investigating the circumstances of the incident.

Adding to the shock, the organisation noted that Sanchita had shared an Instagram Story featuring the song “Dapli Wale Dapli Baja” just hours before news of her death surfaced. Those close to her say there were no visible signs of distress beforehand.

The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has called for a high-level investigation into the death. AICWA President Suresh Shyamlal Gupta urged Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to ensure a transparent inquiry. In a statement, the association stressed that every possible aspect of the case should be examined before reaching any conclusion.

AICWA raised pointed questions about the timing of the tragedy. The union raised suspicion over the alleged suicide amid her success in the film industry, noting that at a stage when her career was steadily progressing, this heartbreaking development raised serious questions that deserved a fair and transparent answer.

The association did not stop at calling for an inquiry into Sanchita’s death alone. AICWA further urged the Government of Maharashtra to establish a dedicated committee to examine the increasing number of deaths and mental health-related crises being reported within the entertainment industry. It also called for a review of the safety, well-being, and support systems available to artists.

In its official statement, the association pointed to a pattern that has gone unaddressed for too long. In recent years, the Indian entertainment industry has witnessed several deaths and alleged suicide cases. For many instances, questions raised by family members, colleagues, and the public have remained unanswered.

The organization extended its condolences to Sanchita Ugale’s family and stated that it would stand with her loved ones in their pursuit of answers. The statement made clear that the family of Sanchita Ugale deserves nothing less than a fair, impartial, and thorough investigation, with authorities leaving no stone unturned.

The police investigation is ongoing. No arrests have been made so far, and authorities are yet to release an official conclusion on the matter. The industry, meanwhile, continues to grieve the loss of a young actress who was only just finding her footing.
