Bollywood’s energy-packed star Ranveer Singh has approached the Karnataka High Court to quash a criminal case filed against him over his recent remarks and playful imitation of the Daiva character from the hit film Kantara. What started as a light-hearted nod to the film has now spiraled into a courtroom drama.
“It was just praise” says Ranveer’s team
According to Singh’s legal team, there was no intention to offend. The actor simply wanted to applaud Rishab Shetty’s performance and the movie’s unique storytelling.
In court documents, his lawyers argued that the criminal case unfairly treated his admiration as something malicious.
The petition says, in essence, “Ranveer’s sincere praise has been misread as a criminal act”.
The defence highlighted that Ranveer has already faced two official notices from the police, putting him under “undue stress.” His lawyers even requested a same-day hearing, hoping to speed things up and ease the pressure. But the court wasn’t having it.

Justice M Nagaprasanna, heading the bench in Bengaluru, made it clear that fame does not fast-track justice.
Justice Nagaprasanna asked a pointed question: should a case get priority just because the accused is a Bollywood star? And what if it were a Hollywood celebrity instead? Would the courts race against time then?
Despite repeated pleas, the High Court refused the urgent hearing. Ranveer will have to wait, as the official proceedings are set for tomorrow, following the standard timeline.
Will Ranveer Singh manage to clear his name and continue his playful antics without legal backlash? Only the court’s decision will tell.
