Prime Minister Narendra Modi has joined the nation in mourning the sudden loss of singer Zubeen Garg, the cultural icon of Assam who passed away in Singapore on Friday at the age of 52.

The Prime Minister’s words capture the mood across Assam and the Northeast, where grief is raw and widespread. For the people of the region, Zubeen was a voice of identity, pride, and belonging.

Fondly known as the “heartthrob of Assam,” his passing feels like losing a member of the family.
