Bollywood singer Papon was recently roped in a controversy for allegedly forcing himself on a minor girl. The act was caught in camera and it sparked a controversy on social media. A Supreme Court lawyer, Runa Bhuyan, filed a complaint with the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights against Papon. She found an objectionable video where the singer could be seen applying colour to the girl and kissing her inappropriately.

Runa Bhuyan’s complaint reads, “I am shocked to see the behaviour of the said singer Angarag Papon Mahanta towards a minor girl where he is seen to be applying colours on a minor girl and inappropriately kissing the said girl. On seeing the video, I am seriously concerned regarding the safety and security of minor girl participating in reality shows across India.”

After the accusations, Papon opened up about the incident. He took to Twitter and posted a letter, where he wrote, “I am very painfully conscious of the accusations that have been made against me in the last few days. Anyone who knows me would be aware that I am an extremely affectionate and expressive person. That is the way I have been brought up and that’s how I have always been with people close to me or people I care about. To show affection for an 11-year-old child who I have been mentoring for a while now is not an alien concept for me.”

He ends the letter with requesting the media not to damage the minor’s reputation. He went on to write, “I urge the members of the press and my fans to please consider both sides of the story before maligning my public repertoire and damaging the reputation of this girl. My family stands by me in this tough time where I feel I am victimised for no fault of mine.”
