Kathmandu-based event organiser Pinnacle Entertainment has cancelled comedian Pranit More’s upcoming stand-up show in Nepal. The show, titled Pranit More Live in Kathmandu, was scheduled for June 28, 2026 at Nepal Academy Hall. The decision came after More became the centre of a nationwide controversy over misogynistic remarks made during one of his shows in Gurugram.

Pinnacle Entertainment announced the cancellation on social media. The statement read: “Dear Attendees, After careful consideration, we have decided to cancel the Pranit More Live in Kathmandu event scheduled for 28 June 2026. All ticket holders will receive a full refund through their original mode of payment within 7 working days. We apologise for the inconvenience and appreciate your support and understanding.”

What sparked the controversy

The controversy began at a stand-up show by Pranit More in Gurugram. During the show, an audience member called Himanshu Jangra made misogynistic remarks. Jangra suggested that spending money on a woman entitled a man to certain expectations in return. The remarks specifically referenced a Rs 370 chicken biryani.

After clips from the show went viral on social media, the remarks drew widespread criticism. Backlash came against both Jangra and More, with many pointing out that the comedian did not intervene during the exchange.

The National Commission for Women (NCW) took suo motu cognisance of the remarks made during the Gurugram show, which it said reportedly promoted sexual harassment and contained objectionable comments against women.

NCW summons both individuals

The NCW summoned both Pranit More and Himanshu Jangra over the remarks allegedly made during the stand-up comedy show in Gurugram. A hearing was scheduled on June 22, 2026 at 4:00 PM before the Commission.

The Commission said it sought details regarding the status of an FIR under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and other applicable laws, action taken against those involved, examination and authentication of viral video evidence, and the role of the organisers, performers and venue management in the incident.

More issues public apology

Pranit More issued a public apology on social media. In the apology video, he said he deserved the criticism as he could have stopped Jangra from making the statements but instead gave him a platform, which also escalated things.
