Vikrant Massey’s next release has a date. The romantic drama Musafir Cafe premieres on Netflix on July 24. The first glimpse of the film was shared on social media this week by the makers, who wrote: “Pyaar, pahaad aur inn musafiron ki kahaani.”
What the film is about
Musafir Cafe is set across two locations. Bhopal and Mussoorie form the backdrop for a story about three strangers whose lives slowly become connected in ways none of them planned for.
The film is based on the novel by Divya Prakash Dubey. It has been written and created by Sharanya Rajgopal and directed by Ruchir Arun. The production is backed by Terribly Tiny Tales and Homemade Stories.
The three characters
Vikrant Massey plays Chander Mohan Sharma. The character is on a journey to find meaning and a life that feels genuinely his own. It is the kind of role Massey has handled well before. Quiet, searching, internally complicated.
Vedika Pinto plays Sudha. She is supposedly an independent woman determined to build her own future on her own terms.
Mahima Makwana plays Preeti. Her character brings emotional depth to the narrative and plays a significant role in how the larger story unfolds.
The film also features Adil Hussain, Rajeev Siddhartha, Anubha Fatehpuria, Loveleen Mishra, and Sadia Siddiqui. It is a solid ensemble around the three leads.
What else is coming for Vikrant Massey
Musafir Cafe is just one part of a busy stretch ahead for Massey. He has at least three more projects in the pipeline.
Yaar Jigri and Talaakhon Mein Ek are both in the works. Details on both remain limited for now.
The third project is the one drawing the most attention. White is an international thriller in which Massey plays spiritual leader Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar. The film focuses on a largely undocumented chapter of history. It centres on the role the spiritual leader played in peace negotiations that contributed to ending Colombia’s civil conflict, which lasted 52 years.
