Earlier in January, shocking reports came out stating that director Rajkumar Hirani was accused of sexual harassment by a woman crew member.

Owing to the allegations, Rajkumar Hirani’s name was dropped from the poster of the upcoming film Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga.

On Wednesday, during the promotions, lead actress of the film and supporter of #MeToo movement, Sonam Kapoor said she stands by the movement. However, she said that it was important to be responsible before making any remarks.

Sonam Kapoor said, “I am a huge supporter of the #MeToo movement and this is a very important question… This is not the right platform because our film is as important as the movement. I know Raju Hirani very well, I have known him for many years and I have huge respect for him as a filmmaker and as a man. I think we all should reserve judgment and be very responsible before we say anything more on this subject… Because we don’t need to derail this movement.”

Adding to her statement she said, “I always want to believe a woman but suppose by chance, if it is not true, then how bad it will be for the movement, especially if it is somebody like Raju Hirani.”

Several Bollywood celebrities including Dia Mirza, Boney Kapoor, Javed Akhtar, Arshad Warsi, and Sharman Joshi have extended their support to the director. On the other hand, Hirani has dismissed the allegations saying, “This is a false, malicious and mischievous story being spread with the sole intention of destroying my reputation.”

Meanwhile, when the producer of the film Vidhu Vinod Chopra was asked on the issue, he said, “When there is a right time, we will talk about it.”

On the professional front, Sonam Kapoor is gearing up for her release ELKDTAL starring Anil Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, and Juhi Chawla. The film is all set to release on February 1, 2019.
