Marvel fans have a lot to look forward to in the next few years. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige recently confirmed some exciting updates about the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

In a chat with the media, Feige shared that new films and stories will unfold after ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’, which is set to release in December 2027.

One of the biggest announcements is the return of the ‘X-Men’. Fans of the older ‘X-Men’ movies will be happy to know that many of the original stars are coming back for one last time.

Actors like Patrick Stewart (Professor X), Ian McKellen (Magneto), Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler), Rebecca Romijn (Mystique), James Marsden (Cyclops), and Kelsey Grammer (Beast) will all reprise their famous roles.

However, after this, Marvel plans to introduce new actors to play these characters. Feige explained that this change is connected to the storyline of ‘Secret Wars’, where different timelines crash into each other.

This event will create new versions of many well-known characters.

Feige made it clear that this is not a total reboot of the Marvel Universe but more of a fresh start. “’Endgame’ was about endings. ‘Secret Wars’ is about new beginnings,” he said.

Instead of erasing the past, Marvel plans to reshape the future with new stories, new heroes, and even new faces for old characters.

The new ‘X-Men’ movie will be directed by Jake Schreier, and casting will begin soon. Marvel is likely to pick younger actors to play the next generation of mutants. This could lead to new adventures and longer-term stories.

Along with the ‘X-Men’, other fan-favorite superheroes like Iron Man and Captain America will also be recast. This means new actors will step into these iconic roles for upcoming films.

But fans of Robert Downey Jr. will still get to see him in the MCU. The beloved actor, who played Iron Man for over a decade, will return, but this time as a new character. Downey Jr. is going to play Doctor Doom in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, which will theatres on December 18, 2026.
