Telugu folk singer Mangli, known offstage as Satyavathi Mudavath, is now caught in a messy legal tug-of-war with advocate Singapogu Subbu.
On Sunday, the singer walked into Panjagutta Police Station with her lawyer and filed a complaint against Subbu. This came just a day after he accused her of being involved in a massive Rs 10 crore fraud linked to microfinance-style investments.
Alleged Rs 10 lakh demand sparks counter complaint
According to Mangli, the trouble began on March 22 when Subbu allegedly met her, introduced himself as a lawyer, and made inappropriate remarks. She claimed that he demanded Rs 10 lakh from her. In return, he allegedly promised to remove certain videos related to her from YouTube, Instagram, and other social media platforms.

The singer alleged that when she refused to pay, things escalated quickly. She said Subbu and his associates used abusive language and threatened to damage her reputation online. Mangli further claimed that threats were meant to pressure her into paying the money.
She urged police to take strong action, accusing lawyer of criminal intimidation, extortion, harassment. Officials confirmed that case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita including provisions related to cheating and intimidation.
Fraud claims, investor allegations, emotional denial
The dispute became more complicated after Subbu’s earlier complaint. The advocate claimed he represents nearly 100 people who allegedly invested money after being promised high returns through film financing and related business activities. According to him, investors said neither their profits nor their original investments were returned.
Subbu also alleged that he was threatened when he questioned those involved about repayment.
Meanwhile, Mangli strongly denied all fraud allegations. Speaking to media, she broke down emotionally while defending herself. She said she worked hard to rise in her career and even gained fame after appearing on Bigg Boss. She accused the lawyer of harassing her with false claims and trying to tarnish her image.
The singer maintained that the allegations against her are completely untrue and vowed to fight them legally.
