The trailer of an upcoming OTT docu-series has stirred up a political storm in Punjab, turning a digital release into a full-blown public controversy. The conversation exploded when Congress MP Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, who represents the Ludhiana Lok Sabha constituency, took to X (formerly Twitter) on Monday with a long and strongly worded post. What he saw in the trailer clearly did not sit well with him.
Warring said he lost his close friend, Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala, to the gang linked with Lawrence Bishnoi. He described Moose Wala’s killing as not just a personal tragedy but a wound for “every Punjabi” and millions of fans across the world.
I lost my friend Sidhu Moosewala to Lawrence Bishnoi’s gang.
His death was a loss for each and every Punjabi, for millions of his fans around the world.
And today ZEE5 wants to give that same gangster a docuseries called “Lawrence of Punjab”?
Not just Sidhu. Hundreds of…

According to him, giving a gangster-led narrative space on a major OTT platform like ZEE5 is unacceptable.
He also pointed out that “hundreds of Punjabis have lost their lives” because of this criminal network, adding that many families are still living with grief and pain.

In his emotional post, he called the series “not content but a slap” on people’s collective suffering. He further stressed that Punjab’s identity is built on figures like Bhagat Singh, soldiers, and farmers, not gangsters.
Ending on a sharp note, he announced that he will be filing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking a ban on the series and used hashtags like #BanLawrenceOfPunjab and tagged ZEE5.
Lawrence Bishnoi’s name returns to public spotlight
Lawrence Bishnoi is currently one of India’s most talked-about and feared gangsters. He is reportedly operating his network while being lodged in Sabarmati Central Jail. His name has been linked to several high-profile crimes including 2022 murder of Sidhu Moose Wala.
Moose Wala, popular Punjabi singer, was shot dead in broad daylight in Mansa district while driving his SUV. The attack was carried out by members of the Bishnoi gang and gangster Goldy Brar later claimed responsibility and was named as key conspirator.
Beyond Punjab, Bishnoi has also made national headlines for repeatedly threatening Bollywood actor Salman Khan over the black buck poaching case, leading to increased security and state protection for the actor.
