A peaceful cafe in Surrey, Canada, co-owned by Indian comedian and actor Kapil Sharma, became the site of a late-night shooting incident this Thursday. The establishment, named ‘Kap’s Cafe’, had just recently opened its doors to the public.
In the early hours of the morning, around 1:50 am local time, several shots were fired at the cafe. While some staff members were present at the time, no one was harmed.
However, the damage was clearly visible. Multiple bullet holes pierced one of the windows, and another pane was shattered.
In response to the terrifying incident, the team at Kap’s Cafe issued a heartfelt note on their Instagram page. Titled “A Message from Heart,” the statement expressed shock and sorrow over the violence.
“We opened Kap’s Cafe with hopes of bringing warmth, community, and joy through delicious coffee and friendly conversation,” the message read. “To have violence intersect with that dream is heartbreaking. We are processing this shock, but we are not giving up.”

The cafe’s staff thanked the local community for their outpouring of support and extended their appreciation to the Surrey Police Department for their swift response.
“Your kind words, prayers, and memories shared via DM mean more than you know. This cafe exists because of your belief in what we’re building together,” the message continued, “Let’s stand firm against violence and ensure Kap’s Cafe remains a place of warmth and community.”
As for the ongoing investigation, the Surrey Police Service (SPS) confirmed that it is still in its early stages. Staff Sergeant Lindsey Houghton said the police are aware of claims in the Indian media suggesting that a Khalistani separatist may have taken responsibility for the shooting.
However, those claims remain unverified as of now.
The police have yet to identify any suspects or determine a motive behind the attack. Authorities are exploring all possibilities, including whether this incident is linked to other recent events in the area.
Kapil Sharma himself has not yet issued a personal statement.
