Kapil Sharma’s Surrey-based cafe, Kap’s Cafe, has reopened its doors to customers after being shut for over a week following a shocking shooting incident that took place outside the premises.
The comedian and actor, known for bringing laughter to millions, took to Instagram to share the news of the reopening.
Posting a heartfelt message, Kapil praised his team for staying strong during this challenging time. “Proud of you, Team,” he wrote.
On July 10, at around 1:50 am (local time), the quiet of Surrey’s Newton neighbourhood was shattered when multiple gunshots were fired outside Kap’s Cafe. According to the Surrey Police Service, staff members were present inside at the time. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The aftermath of the incident left visible scars on the cafe. Witnesses reported at least ten bullet holes in one of the cafe’s windows, while another window was completely shattered.
The cafe, which had only recently opened its doors to the public, suddenly became the scene of a crime that left the local community in shock.

The building where the cafe is located houses various retail outlets on the ground floor and residential apartments above. It’s still unclear how many residents were present during the incident. Alongside Kap’s Cafe, a multi-faith centre and two other yet-to-open businesses also occupy the complex.
The area was quickly cordoned off by the police. Officers gathered evidence from the café while, just across the street, children played outside a nearby daycare centre, unaware of the heavy police presence. The Vancouver Sun reported that investigators have since been working to determine the motive behind the shooting.
In the days following the attack, the team at Kap’s Cafe issued a deeply emotional message titled “A Message From the Heart.”
“We started Kap’s Cafe with the dream of building a warm and welcoming space. A place where people could share coffee and conversation,” the cafe’s note read. “To have violence touch that dream is heartbreaking. We are still processing this shock, but we refuse to give up.”
The cafe team thanked the Surrey community for their outpouring of support, kind messages, and prayers.
