John Abraham on Mammootty: Bollywood star John Abraham has been singing praises for Malayalam cinema and its top actors. In a recent chat with The Indian Express, John opened up about how much he respects the bravery and creativity of Malayalam films.
He even revealed plans to produce movies inspired by this vibrant industry.
John called Malayalam cinema the most courageous in India today. “The best films in the country come from Malayalam cinema,” he said. When asked about his favourite actor, John didn’t hesitate: “It’s Mohanlal, by light years.”
Alongside Mohanlal, he also mentioned his admiration for Hollywood legend Meryl Streep.
John Abraham also applauded Mammootty for taking on a daring role in the film ‘Kaathal: The Core’. He said, “Mammootty plays a politician who is gay. It’s very brave for him to choose such a role.” He called himself a huge fan of Mammootty’s bold choices in cinema.
Taking his passion further, John has set up a writer’s room in Kerala. This creative space is meant to develop new ideas rooted in the style and spirit of Malayalam films.

“I want to borrow some ideas from there and see if we can make films that work nationally or just in Malayalam,” he explained.
He hopes to produce more Malayalam films soon because he feels the timing is perfect and the talent is amazing. But he also wants to keep producing films in other languages.
On the professional front, John Abraham was last seen in the political thriller ‘The Diplomat’. His upcoming project is ‘Tehran’, which will premiere directly on the streaming platform ZEE5 on August 14.
