Directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Neeraj Ghaywan, ‘Homebound’ has already been making waves. The film is India’s official entry for the Best International Feature Film category at the 98th Academy Awards, announced by Karan Johar, whose Dharma Productions backed the project.
‘Homebound’ tells the story of two childhood friends from a small village in North India who dream of becoming police officers. They hope the job will bring them respect and recognition in a world that has often overlooked them. But as they inch closer to achieving their dreams, the pressures of life and mounting challenges begin to test their friendship.
The film stars Janhvi Kapoor, Ishaan Khatter, and Vishal Jethwa in pivotal roles.
Speaking about the Oscar selection, Neeraj Ghaywan shared his heartfelt gratitude. “Rooted in the love for our land and our people, it carries the essence of the home we all share. To take our stories to the world and represent India at one of the biggest global stages for cinema is both humbling and a matter of pride. And for this, I’m deeply grateful,” he said.
Before its release in India, ‘Homebound’ premiered in the Un Certain Regard section at Cannes 2025. The film received a nine-minute-long standing ovation.
