Japan’s presence as the Country Focus at the 56th International Film Festival of India gained momentum on Sunday as the teams behind Tiger and Seaside Serendipity interacted with the media, sharing insights into their creative process, thematic inspirations, and the pride of showcasing Japanese cinema on a global platform.

Tiger tells the story of a 35-year-old masseuse whose escalating conflict with his sister over property ownership pushes him to a critical breaking point, blurring moral boundaries.

Set in a serene seaside town, Seaside Serendipity explores a community of long-term residents whose lives are disrupted by the arrival of artists and a series of unusual events. The trailers of both films were showcased during a media interaction held today.

Addressing the media, Tiger’s director Anshul Chauhan spoke about the creative and emotional complexities encountered during the making of the film. He shared his initial apprehension regarding how audiences might receive such a sensitive theme, noting that portraying LGBTQ+ issues as a non-LGBTQ+ filmmaker required heightened responsibility, sensitivity, and respect toward the community.

Speaking during the interaction, the executive producer of Seaside Serendipity, Tomomi Yoshimura, described his experiences and creative journey. He highlighted the film’s core thematic vision, explaining that it seeks to bridge the generational gap between children and adults.

He emphasised that the narrative was crafted to foster understanding across age groups, presenting perspectives that resonate with both the young and the old.
