Actor and producer Harman Baweja has opened up about the casting choices for his upcoming thriller ‘Bhagwat: Chapter 1 – Raakshas’. He revealed how he brought together two very different actors, Arshad Warsi and Jitendra Kumar for the project.
The film, directed by Akshay Shere, promises a story of crime and emotion. The story revolves in the small town of Robertsganj, Uttar Pradesh. Arshad plays Inspector Vishwas Bhagwat, a tough yet emotionally layered police officer who finds himself in a mysterious investigation that tests his beliefs and morals.
Talking about his decision to cast Arshad, Harman told IANS that the actor was the “perfect fit” for the role. “Arshad Warsi is a powerhouse. He brings grit, charm, and depth to Inspector Vishwas Bhagwat. The way he balances intensity and vulnerability is what makes the story so powerful,” Harman shared.
He added that Arshad’s screen presence instantly elevates every scene. “With Arshad leading the investigation and Jitendra flipping his usual good-guy image, we knew their on-screen chemistry would be electrifying. The tension, unpredictability, and realism they bring together are at the heart of the film.”
While Arshad plays the experienced cop, ‘Panchayat’ star Jitendra Kumar will be seen in a completely different avatar. Known for his relatable and warm screen image, Jitendra is stepping into a darker and more complex role this time.

“Bringing Jitendra on board was a bold choice,” Harman admitted. “He has built such a strong connection with audiences through his likeable and grounded characters that people almost see him as that dependable guy. That’s exactly why casting him in an unpredictable role felt so fresh and exciting.”
Harman went on to say that Jitendra’s ability to completely transform himself made the casting decision even easier. “He’s such a genuine performer that you believe him in whatever he does. In ‘Bhagwat’, he challenges that comfort zone. And, even the teaser gives a small glimpse of the surprises his character brings.”
Written by Bhavini Bheda and Sumit Saxena, ‘Bhagwat: Chapter 1 – Raakshas’ is a production of Harman Baweja’s banner, Baweja Studio. The film also features Ayesha Kaduskar in a key role and explores how far one man is willing to go in the name of justice.
‘Bhagwat: Chapter 1 – Raakshas’ is going to light up the big screens this Diwali, with its release scheduled for October 17, 2025.
